The First Passionate Collector The Ian Lindsay Collection of Inuit Art
Essays by Frederica Woodrow Knight,
Sheila Butler
and Darlene Coward Wight.
Generally
recognized as the first major collector of Contemporary
Period Inuit art, the late Ian Lindsay
built an important collection of over 400 sculptures
that now resides in the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
This 1990 publication documents part of Lindsay’s
remarkable collection, and illustrates the Montrealer’s
preference for small and often idiosyncratic works.
Also contains important essays on the early development
of contemporary Inuit art.
